Our 2019 harvest was significantly impacted by the poor rainfall in 2018. The soil moisture was so poor at the beginning of the winter 2018 that most trees chose to rest and not produce fruit in 2019. Compounding the situation was the extremely wet conditions in May 2019 that made it difficult to move machinery around the farms to get the the fruit from the trees.
As a result the volume of oil we where able to produce was limited. However the rain was hugely welcomed as it has set the groves up for a better season in 2020-2021.
We did have enough fruit to produce our Estate Tuscan and Spanish oils and for the first time we now have oils from the other groves we manage.
The Mt Moriac Olives Ligurian and Mediterranean are produced from groves we maintain in Teesdale and Birregurra respectively. Sold under the Mt Moriac Olives brand but created from fruit from those groves in the Otway Ranges and Golden Plains regions and produced by our new company Geelong Region Olives.
Our Estate Spanish oil is a 80/20 blend of our Spanish Picual and Arbequina varieties grown on our farm at Modewarre.
Our Estate Tuscan oil is a 50/50 blend of our Italian Frantoio and Leccino varieties grown on our farm at Modewarre.
The Mediterranean oil is a 100% single varietal oil made from Kalamata fruit that we harvest at the Birregurra Grove.
The Liguran oil is more than 90% Taggiasca with a smattering of Koreneiki that was harvested from the Teesdale grove.
